The Android game keeps your experiments on your device. It does not send your gameplay to us.

Who is responsible?

Era Consulting, based in Denmark, publishes Field Notes: Cause & Effect and is the data controller for personal information it receives about the game. This policy covers the offline Android app and contact with us about it, including the game and policy pages on theirfirsttales.com.

What stays on your device

The app saves your puzzle settings, experiment results, predictions, answers, completed puzzles and last-opened puzzle in local app storage. This lets you continue playing. These records are not uploaded to Era Consulting or a game server.

The Android app has no sign-in, account, advertising, analytics or third-party tracking SDK. It does not ask for a child’s name, email, age, location, photos, contacts, microphone or camera. It requests no Android permissions. All 22 puzzles and their pictures are included in the app and can be played offline.

Payments

The game has no in-app purchases, subscriptions or ads. If you buy the paid download on Google Play, Google handles the purchase and payment information under its own privacy policy and store terms. The app does not receive your card details. Google may make purchase records available to the publisher for payment administration or support; these are separate from local gameplay and may need to be kept for accounting or legal obligations.

Deleting your progress

Progress remains on this device until you reset it, clear the app’s storage or uninstall the app. “Restart” resets the selected puzzle only. To remove all progress, use Android Settings → Apps → Field Notes → Storage → Clear storage, or uninstall the app. The exact labels may differ on your device.

Android cloud backup is disabled for this app. Progress does not sync between devices or with a browser edition. We cannot retrieve or delete these local records remotely.

When a grown-up contacts us

If you email us, we receive your email address, message and any information or attachments you choose to send. We use this information to answer your request, resolve problems and handle follow-up questions. Please avoid including a child’s personal information, photos or unnecessary payment details.

Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing support and maintaining the game (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Where a request concerns a purchase or a legal obligation, processing may also be necessary to perform a contract or meet that obligation (Article 6(1)(b) or (c)). We keep correspondence only for as long as needed for the request, related follow-up and applicable legal or record-keeping requirements.

Website visits and service providers

Our website is hosted by Simply.com A/S, which also handles incoming email for theirfirsttales.com. Simply states that its hosting servers and data are located in Denmark. Its role in hosting customer data and its service providers are described on its compliance page.

Cloudflare provides domain registration and website delivery services. Website requests pass through its network before reaching the host. To deliver and protect the pages, these providers process technical information such as your IP address, browser details, requested address, time of access and traffic information. Our purpose is to provide and secure the website, relying on legitimate interests under GDPR Article 6(1)(f).

The supplied pages have no advertising, contact forms or analytics scripts and do not set cookies themselves. Cloudflare may use security cookies when its protection features require them; see its cookie information. Provider services can maintain operational or security logs independently of the page files.

Support messages are kept according to the support purposes described above. Technical records are retained according to the service involved and the need to deliver it, investigate faults or security incidents, and meet legal obligations. Provider backups may retain copies after active records are removed. Contact us for information about records relating to you or to exercise your rights.

The Android game itself makes no international data transfers. Simply’s published hosting agreement restricts processing to the European Economic Area unless an agreed or legally required exception applies. Cloudflare operates internationally, including in the United States, so website connection data may be processed outside the EEA. Its data processing terms describe transfer safeguards, including standard contractual clauses where required. These services handle website requests and correspondence separately from offline gameplay. This policy does not cover unrelated pages on theirfirsttales.com or a separately hosted browser edition. We do not use support messages for advertising or make automated decisions about you. Information may need to be disclosed where required by law.

Your privacy choices and rights

You can play without contacting us or visiting any external website. For personal information held by Era Consulting, you can ask for access, correction or deletion, or ask us to restrict processing. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests and request data portability where that right applies. These rights depend on the circumstances; some information may need to be retained to meet legal obligations.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy if the game’s data practices change. The latest public version is available at https://theirfirsttales.com/gamepolicy.html. The policy supplied with your installed version remains available offline in the app’s “Grown-ups” menu.
